Purple Spot Disease

September 2021. The fungus, Stemphylium vesicarium, causes purple spot disease of asparagus spears and fern. MSU recommends several management strategies for asparagus including limiting overhead irrigation, planting cover crops to prevent sandblasting of foliage, and applying fungicides using the TOM-CAST disease forecasting system to time spray applications.
